Common conditions treated

Dry Eye

Holistic ophthalmology is an emerging field of eye care that takes a whole-body approach to eye health. It encompasses a wide range of practices, including diet, lifestyle changes, holistic modalities, herbal support and nutritional supplements. These can be used separately or in conjunction with western medical eye care treatments. This approach is based on the understanding that the eyes are part of a larger system and that factors such as diet, stress, and environmental toxins can affect not only eye health but the overall health of a person as well. Below I will explain how we use the principles of holistic ophthalmology and its potential to benefit patients seeking assistance, and click here to schedule a call to see if we can help you with a natural remedy for dry eye

Myopia

Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a common eye condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It is characterized by difficulty seeing objects at a distance, while objects up close appear clear. Myopia is caused by a refractive error in the eye, where the shape of the eye causes light to focus incorrectly on the retina. Western medicine doesn’t know how to cure myopia naturally and effectively. Traditional treatments for myopia include prescription glasses, contact lenses, and corrective surgery. However, alternative health practices like acupuncture have emerged as effective treatments for myopia, offering a more holistic approach to eye care.

Retinitis Pigmentosa

Retinitis pigmentosa is a degenerative eye disorder that causes progressive vision loss in millions of people around the world. Although there is currently no cure for this condition, research has shown that acupuncture could be an effective treatment for managing symptoms. In this essay, we will delve into the overview of retinitis pigmentosa, discuss the potential benefits of acupuncture for treating this condition, and look at the possible side effects and risks of acupuncture treatment.

Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration is a degenerative condition of the eyes, and a leading cause of vision loss among the elderly. Age-related macular degeneration is a variation of the condition, and this essay will explore the causes and risk factors, diagnosis and treatment options, and the impact on quality of life. Understanding these aspects of the condition is essential in order to choose the proper treatment options for those affected.

Glaucoma

Acupuncture has been used as a form of medical treatment for centuries, and its effectiveness has been extensively studied in recent decades (Qi et al., 2022). According to Qi et al. (2022), acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine involving the insertion of thin needles at specific points on the body to achieve a therapeutic effect. This form of treatment has been proven to have a range of benefits for many conditions, including glaucoma. Glaucoma is a condition where the pressure inside the eye increases, which can lead to vision loss. Studies have shown that acupuncture may reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) and improve the general functioning of the eye (Qi et al., 2022). Specifically, Qi et al. (2022) found that acupuncture was associated with a decrease in IOP by up to 24%, which was considered to be clinically significant. In addition, acupuncture has been found to improve other aspects of glaucoma, such as reducing the risk of vision loss and improving overall eye health. The authors of the study concluded that acupuncture could be a viable treatment option for glaucoma patients, and further research is needed to better understand its potential benefits (Qi et al., 2022).

Optical Migraines

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical practice that is becoming increasingly popular in the United States. Recent research has shown that acupuncture could be used to help treat migraine headaches. In a recent study published in Neurology and Urology, I Urits and colleagues explored the potential benefits of acupuncture for treating optical migraine headaches. The authors found that acupuncture could reduce the frequency and intensity of migraine headaches, as well as improve overall quality of life. Acupuncture works by stimulating certain points on the body, which can help to release endorphins, reduce inflammation, and improve blood flow. Furthermore, the authors suggested that acupuncture could provide relief from migraine headaches without the need for medication. This could be beneficial for those who have to take medication for long periods of time, as it could reduce the risk of side effects. Overall, this research suggests that acupuncture could be a safe and effective treatment option for reducing the frequency and intensity of migraine headaches.

Floaters

The use of acupuncture as a form of therapy has been practiced in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. In recent years, acupuncture has become increasingly popular as a form of alternative medicine. A recent study conducted by TE Kao, YW Kuo, and KY Wu in 2017 explored the effects of acupuncture on floaters. Floaters are a common vision condition caused by the accumulation of debris in the vitreous humor of the eye. It can cause a person to experience blurred vision, flashes of light, and spots that appear to move when a person looks at a bright background. The study found that acupuncture can reduce the symptoms associated with floaters. It also found that acupuncture can improve the vision of those affected by floaters. Additionally, the study suggested that acupuncture may have a positive effect on the eye muscles, helping to reduce the strain on the eyes when looking at bright backgrounds. Acupuncture can also help improve the circulation of blood and energy in the body, which can help reduce the symptoms associated with floaters. This research suggests that acupuncture may be a viable option for those suffering from floaters. (Kao et al., 2017).

Cataracts

Acupuncture has been used for centuries as a form of alternative medicine for a variety of ailments, including cataracts. In a study conducted by GC Woo, GM Halpern, and EYM Kwong (2009), acupuncture was evaluated for its efficacy as a treatment for cataracts. The study found that acupuncture had the potential to reduce the development of cataracts, although further research is necessary to fully elucidate its efficacy. The study found that acupuncture was associated with a decrease in intraocular pressure, which is an important factor in the development and progression of cataracts. Furthermore, the study found that acupuncture was associated with improved vision, suggesting that it may be able to reduce the symptoms of cataracts. While the study was limited in its scope and further research is needed to confirm its findings, the results are promising and suggest that acupuncture could be an effective treatment for cataracts.

Retinal Occlusions

Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that has been used for thousands of years to treat various medical conditions. In recent years, it has become increasingly popular for treating retinal occlusions. In a 2021 study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, X Zeng et al. investigated the effects of acupuncture on retinal occlusions. The study found that acupuncture was effective in improving retinal occlusions, as well as in reducing the levels of inflammatory cytokines in the body. The authors concluded that acupuncture could be a potential treatment for retinal occlusions, although further research is needed. The findings of this study suggest that acupuncture may be an effective treatment for retinal occlusions, providing a safe and non-invasive alternative to other treatments. Further research is needed to determine the exact mechanisms of action and to assess the efficacy of acupuncture in larger clinical studies.
